One of the most challenging days to do devotions, I find, is my day off—or rather, when I have a few spare hours. Today, on a Saturday, I’m sitting and working after spending the morning fixing our trailer in Tulsa, as we prepare to hit the road in a week.
A key indicator of whether your time with Jesus is merely a checkbox or a truly enriching part of your day is how frequently you engage in devotions on your day off.
This mindset stems from the belief that workdays are not entirely our own, making it easier to dedicate time to God, unlike a day off, which feels like precious personal time. But what if we viewed all our time as not our own? What if we saw no divide, recognizing it all as the time on earth that God grants us?
When we acknowledge that all our time belongs to God, our approach to work and relaxation changes. We stop prioritizing work and leisure, and instead, prioritize our time with Jesus, whether on weekdays or weekends. When we put God first, no matter what day of the week it is, we set our priorities correctly and give God space to guide our lives in every way.
In the coming week, let’s avoid categorizing our days as ‘on the clock’ or ‘off the clock’ in relation to our devotion time. Instead, focus on intentional devotion time with Christ, which is essential for managing life’s responsibilities. Recognize that when God owns it all, even the complexities and challenges of life are His responsibility too!
