My name is Brian and I have been transformed by the greatest and worst thing that has ever happened to me. The picture below is of my eye when I had a disease called scleritis which was an inflammation of the white part of my left eye. The inflammation was so severe that I now have a partially detached retina and a certain amount of vision loss. I was 3 weeks from my eye being removed and took every medication possible to stop my immune system from eating it away.
Lots to think about when you are in your early thirties and in the prime of life.
I am now on the other side of my sickness and have an amazing story to share that will hopefully encourage others.
My book, “Holy Crap, Finding God’s Presence in your Pain” is the story of that journey and all the things I learned while being sick.
Life means something more to me since being sick and I want to help others find or rekindle a relationship with God and help them learn that you CAN find the “Holy” in the “Crap” of life.

Man! I have totally lost track of you and somehow someway ran across this page. I can’t believe it. I’m in Arkansas planting a church. Was in Southern California until 2003. Please get me caught up on your life. Praying for you! – Lane
Brian –
All I can say is wow. Was this ever an wake up call for me. I can’t imagine what you and Yolanda have been through with all of this.
You will be in my daily prayers asking God to continue to heal and bless you both!
Les
I’m curious… will follow your progress…. awakenings come in so many different ways…
What a blessing to come across your blog. I can’t go into detail at this time as I’ve been asked not to mention some things on any public or social site but you will be hearing from me in a few weeks. Thank you – that’s all I can say at this time. Bless you!
Brian, I finished reading your book, a gift from your Aunt Barb, and resonated with so many of your initial feelings being a church kid and serving and helping people my whole life too, until my brain tumor left me with challenged eyesight. So glad you finished your book, and was excited to see the paragraph mentioning our prayers and card for you. We will make it, because Jesus came so that we might have LIFE! Even when we make mistakes.
Sue
Sue,
I am glad you enjoyed the book! The prayers from your group And the card you sent sustained me through my eye issues and I am able to tell my story because you prayed. I can remember the day I received the card you all signed and what it did for me when I was in the middle of my depression. Thanks again and I am believing for total and complete healing in your body!!
Blessings,
Brian
Brian, Thank you so much for your book. It has helped me tremendously. My brother has been in the hospital on a ventilator from COVID for 2.5 months now. He has lung damage from the Pneumonia. He’s finally stable enough to be taken off sedation meds. His wife has been doing WebEx sessions twice a day to pray, read the Bible and just talk to him. He is now aware enough to be able to answer questions by blinking and she was able to tell him how much we love him and how many people are praying for him. This crisis has brought our family closer to each other and to God through nightly conference calls/prayer sessions. This 2.5 months has changed all of our family and we are so grateful to my brother for this. We are not the same people from 2 months ago. I trust in God that I will be able to tell this and thank my brother in person! We continue to pray his lungs will be healed and his body restored. We know he won’t be the same person either, but a new man ready to share this testimony with our part of the world and do God’s work along side his wife. Who, by the way, is a Prayer Warrior – she’s been a champion for my brother since the beginning. I found your book through her, she bought it several years ago for my brother. I started reading it at her house one day and then bought my own copy. I’ve shared parts of the book with family and encouraged them to read it as well. We must all use this time to continue to grow closer in our faith to the Lord and be prepared to do our part in his grand plan for my brother. With gratitude, Brenda
Thanks for the kind words Brenda and glad my story could help in some way! Will be praying for you!
