I created a prayer request page for you to post needs in the comment box and have Yolanda and I pray for you. We all need to have prayer sometimes and no better way than to use the good ol’ internet to help each other. If you are a visitor on this blog and you are not a Christian you are still welcome to list your needs. Also, if you don’t have a need then let someone else know that I am doing this on my blog. Lets stick it to the devil (notice lower case?)
star wars kid fights agent smiths
This is possibly one of my favorite star wars kid videos. Enjoy and happy star wars kid sunday.
ninja warrior on crack
Today I watched Unbeatable Banzuke. It is like Ninja Warrior but on crack. It is so funny to see the Japanese people and their obsession with seeing people compete and some end up in pain. Glad Im an American and dont have any of those trappings. (uh, does the UFC fight tonight count? Should be a good one with Forrest Griffin and Rampage Jackson) My point is, dont think that you can judge someone else without possibly having some of those same issues.
Matthew 7:3″Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?”
Don’t forget it. A good verse to remember when something is getting ready to come out of your mouth that probably shouldn’t.
happy 4th of july
Happy 4th of July. I wanted to post this video of the biggest fireworks shell in the world that is 48inches big. Holy Lord that is ridiculous but dang fun to watch. Also, listen to the dog barking in the background at the end of the video. I thought it was oddly funny. Have a great day all my blog buddies and Mike, if you are reading this, there is a “nugget” here somewhere for you I’m sure. 🙂
the olympics are a pain in the butt…literally
I was watching the Olympic trials tonight and thought of something interesting that was a great life lesson. The time trials for Track and Field were on and I thought that the runners made their running look so effortless. It was like they got up that morning, stopped by Burger King to get a croissant and rolled onto the field and ran their race. Some of them were not even breathing hard. I can remember not too long ago when I would get winded just running up the stairs in my house. 🙂 I compared that to when you see people that have their life together and you think, “wow, I wish my life would be that easy.” You dont know the effort that goes into that person’s life just like I didnt know the effort that goes into those runners and their ability to run like that. A vibrant, world changing relationship with God takes effort and has lots of ups and downs. Just like in running, if you dont feel the burn to work your muscles, heart and lungs you will not make the Olympics. For some reason, we think that a relationship with God should come easy and when we go through something in life we blame God for not making it easy for us. The training of the Lord for us to have a full and successful life has some of the same “pains” as an olympic runner, but just in a different form.
so…what did you learn today?
What did you learn today? Did you realize that everyday you are alive you learn something? You may have learned someting about people in your world or maybe something about yourself. Maybe you learned something about life or about death or something about God or something about hell. Maybe you watched someones poor decisions in life and you learned not to make the same mistakes or you saw a person that inspired you who has walked through a personal test and you want to make the same kinds of good choices. The life you live is not just what happens to you its the good decisions you make from the things that happen to you.
I have decided to have “star wars kid sundays”
I have decided to post star wars kid on my blog for a few sundays in a row. I do think that God wants us to have a good laugh now and then and I think that most people have seen these star wars kid clips but they are good for the soul to watch. Star Wars kid is a kid from Canada who filmed himself practicing star wars moves with a golf ball retriever pole and his friends found the tape and put it on the internet. He became an instant star and so there are people that take his basic footage and put it to music and video to “enhance the experience. This first clip is the original clip that the friends posted on the web and the second clip is a classic clip from star wars and the star wars kid is in it. All I have to say is…enjoy.
so you think you know pain?
Here is a picture of my eye when it was at its worst. I was looking at these again with Yolanda and she said she didn’t want to see them. When we look at them, it really does bring back a rush of emotions from the past and the pain that I was in and our family in general. We all have pain from our past and sometimes we have little reminders that can keep us trapped in how we used to feel. I had thoughts of suicide, i asked yolanda one time if she was going to leave me because of the physical and emotional liability I felt like I was to the family, I was out of ministry and my call felt stalled, I was getting about 1.5 hours of sleep each night and would get up at 2:30am to take a bath and pull on my hair because it hurt so bad, we still have lots of medical bills to pay, I went through a period of time where I didn’t want to leave the house and see ANYONE or talk to anyone and I am now taking a pill that is helping my eye but could give me bladder cancer if I take it too long. These are just a few of the things that I have been going through the past 4.5 years, but I also have to think back on the good things that Have happened like…many people in the church blessing us with food, money and prayers, a church that re-hired me when I could have still been a medical liability for them as an organization (thanks Sarah and Reece), knowing that there are literally hundreds of people around the globe that are praying for me, a wife that loves me and only see’s me as already healed, a new perspective on life that has changed my relationship with Jesus FOREVER, a loving mom and dad that have both offered me there eyes and countless people that God has opened my eyes to (pun intended) that need Jesus and will listen to me because I have actually had my faith tested and I know what I believe. All that to say this; you have an option whenever you go through something in life. You can easily look at the negative or the bad, but you need to seek out the positive and not ask God WHY but ask him WHAT. Not WHY is this happening to me, but WHAT are you teaching me and what do I need to learn about myself and my purpose in this life.
I just officiated a wedding
I just did a wedding today up in Conifer for a kid that was in my youth group here. It was a nice little short ceremony with all the fixin’s. I thought many things today as I was officiating the ceremony; I have a great wife and am still happy to be married after 14 years, I feel old because I am marrying kids from my youth group here in Denver and that I am praying for Scott and Toni because she is pregnant and they have only been married two years (I just accidentally typed in “tears” instead of “years”. That’s funny and it must have been a sign) I thought about the fact that Yolanda and I have both never wanted kids in our years of marriage. We love kids, but just other people’s kids. I do think that we would make great parents (can you imagine a little Brian running around? There would probably be some kind of tear in the space time continum) The reason why I bring this up is that Yolanda and I have had to know for us that it was not right to have kids. Believe me, we have gotten plenty of pressure through the years to have kids from “you guys are too selfish” to “we want some grand-babies”. I say this because many times in the church we can mistake spiritual advise as spiritual direction for our lives. You need to recognize the difference and trust that God can speak to you about anything and that you dont have to have a “word from the Lord” from someone in the church. If you have kids, then God bless you (and I will be praying for you because I was a youth pastor and I know things) but if you dont, then dont feel like you are odd if you and your spouse haven’t made that mutual decision. Whew! A wedding can bring so many things up in a mind.
my ipod talks to me
I have the sweetest ipod of them all; the ipod Touch. It is so sweet and I would consider it my favorite gadget. It has the internet on it, pictures from past trips and even youtube for watching all those people that think they are “famous” but in reality we are just laughing at them and thinking they are idiots. (mental note, NEVER publish any video of myself doing the “trombone dance”, singing “Chocolate rain” or have a camera around where i could possibly make a fool of myself). Anyway, i was thinking about how my ipod “talks” to me and the things that I listen to. Do you realize that you picked the songs that you listen to on your ipod? (I know. This is news to some of you) And did you realize that those songs “talk to you” when you listen to them? I think it is really interesting to take a snapshot look at your ipod and see what you are filling your mind with. Even more, think about the kind of music you listen to when you are in a certain mood. I am only saying this because, A. This is my blog and I can say whateva I want to and B. I only want to challenge you to consider the kind of things that you put in your body mentally. Dont forget that your mind is just as important to take care of as the rest of your body and you want your ipod telling you things that lift you up and not just allowing it to sing in your ear songs because you “like the beat”. Phillipians 4:8 (…if anything is excellent or praiseworthy (to God that is) think on such things)
